Our Feeder!

It wasn't easy, but finally got our bird feeder up in the yard! First had to find a piece of wood. Then borrow a saw to cut the wood. Then get some nails. Borrow a hammer. Turned out this stump was probably too low so birds weren't comfortable stopping by. Except for the Brown Jays. I'm guessing those are like the Costa Rican Magpies.

So BigJohn borrowed a shovel and found a post and made a taller stand for the feeder.

Yeah BigJohn!  Now take a look at these beautiful Motmots below. Those are the birds that are NOT showing up at our feeder! Those were at Stella's Bakery today when we stopped by for brunch. Two of them! They're awesome and one of my favorite birds. We have a Motmot that lives in our yard. Doesn't go near the feeder. Maybe they just need more time to adjust.

So it's back to Brown Jays for us. And oh yeah. The coati.

He's not shy at all. And our post has those convenient steps for him on the side to make access even easier. So finally Hector is taking charge of the yard and has drawn the line. No coatis on the lawn or at the feeder!
Here's Hector on guard duty. All proud that he chased off the coati.
 Still on patrol.
Might help if he opened his eyes. Or maybe he's just going by scent. But where was Hector today when this guy came along? Napping I'm sure.
So I've created this bit of signage and will be posting it on the feeder as soon as I get some paper. And some markers. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

  1. Take pics if there are any coati that show up in protest to your sign. :-)
