Monteverde Friends Meeting presents the Christmas Program

Didn't know if we'd make it back from the volcano trip in time for this event. Glad we did! The guys opted out so Hannah and I took the walk up the hill to the Meeting House. Loved their decorations. Looked like the school children's work. The room was full with people standing in back and along the walls and even outside looking through the windows.
Everybody getting settled.
Standing room only.

Room was heating up so windows were opened. Take a look at this one above. The woman had to stand on the bench to lift the shutter which was hinged in the middle. Then it just hooks into whichever slat you want for more or less air coming through. Quite inventive.
Programs here take two people to announce - one for English and one for Spanish.
How often do you see an accordian played? This was a brother and sister act.
Michelle has a lovely soprano voice. And this toddler couldn't stay off the stage during the duet which worked out wonderfully as Michelle was singing "A La Nanita Nana" - a traditional Christmas time carol sung in honor of Baby Jesus, that has become a lullaby in the Hispanic world.
The Klaassen-Wright Family Singers entertained us with a song from Wales about that country's tradition of dressing up a dead wren and carrying it around to friends' homes on Boxing Day which is the day after Christmas. Doesn't that sound like a good time?
And Santa Baby was there! Cute!
Folks of all ages make up The Kitchen Sink Orchestra which played a Christmas Medley. Recorded a few notes below for your listening pleasure!
And afterwards everyone was treated to homemade cookies and hot wassail! This was after we sang The Wassail Song which was a first for me. I don't think I've ever even used the word "wassail" before in my life until this event. But the tune was familiar and now I'm looking up recipes online for BigJohn and Francisco since they missed the whole thing!

This was also the event where I met Bennito and the baby sloth.
And take a look at this little cutie all dressed up!
Feliz Navidad!
