La Hormiga (The Ant)

I'm growing fond of the little ants that invade our kitchen. It's nice to have a bit of company when I cook. Once in a while I'll leave a snack out for them. BigJohn doesn't like this. He says that if I could see what they really look like with a microscope they'd be hideous and not cute at all. Oh really? Then what about this? Found it online and we all know it wouldn't be on the internet if it wasn't true.

 

And I vaguely remember a scene from this movie where an ant helped to save the children.

And look how cute these movie ants are!

I think it could be that BigJohn is jealous because he can't even see these ants! Even with his glasses on! Because his eyes are old. It's not like he has to worry about them getting into his food. They're so tiny he wouldn't even notice that he was eating them.

So I've been experimenting to find out what they like. They love any type of fat - butter, avocado, ham, etc. They love Hector's dog food. Don't like coffee or citrus. They loved the mango cookies I made. And the coconut that fell off the bits of fudge. Found this out when I accidentally left the empty plastic container out. Now if there had been any cookies left in there I would have been sure to get the lid on and put it in the frig to protect the food, but since it was empty, I forgot to take care of it. Left it on the counter with some crumbs in it while I walked to the store. And this is what I found when I got back. Had to shoot some video because they are so tiny a picture wouldn't be worth 1,000 words. Look how cute they are! All working so hard!! And those are tiny bits of coconut. Most of them smaller than a pin head.

I will admit that I sent them all down the sink drain when I washed the container out. But it's not like I squished them. I figure they had a fighting chance if they could swim. And for all I know that sink water might be going right outside and draining down the slope of the mountain. Which gives them an opportunity to turn around and head right back in here. It's all part of the truce.
