Exploring the Neighborhood

We live next door to the Children's Eternal Rainforest. Visit the website to learn the story of how the land was acquired. It's an interesting one and explains why it is called the Children's Forest.

There are lots of trails to hike. We have yet to actually enter the Rainforest though as dogs aren't allowed. They scare away all the animals.

But the hike to the entrance is one of Hector's favorites. We pass two different houses where there are fenced dogs barking like crazy with their heads stuck out through the bars acting like they want to tear Hector to shreds. He loves it. He can bark all he wants as he prances by and they can't touch him. Francisco tells me that the owners let the dogs run loose in the evening and they are actually quite nice dogs. I hope that's true.

I always make sure I have Hector on his leash when we walk by these two houses or he'd be right at the fence nose to nose with these guys. He's even teaching Hannah and Francisco's little puppy Malak to bark back at them. So cute! But Hannah and Francisco don't think so.

There is a walkway and observation point near the park entrance that is great for viewing the sunset. You can see the Pacific Ocean from there.

The park closes to hikers at 4:30 so everyone can be out before dark. Then the Night Tours begin!

  1. I'm jealous of all your hiking opputunities! Your all looking tan and fit! The scenery is just too amazing for words. Tell Hector barking and prancing is great fun, but shreaking and running is not, so stay away in the evenings. (That bit for Hector was from Tinker-Belle)

  2. I told Hector. He chased off a big dog at Stella's Bakery today where we were having lunch. I heard laughter from a table nearby and the comment "Muy bravo!"
