Monteverde Cheese Factory - Where the Milk is Still Warm

This post is for all our dairy friends back in Idaho and Washington.
But you can read it too, even if you don't have a dairy.

This place is just up the hill from us. And they sell ice cream! I'm figuring the calories you burn getting there balances out the calories consumed when you eat a cone. My math is probably off with that calculation.

The Cheese Factory has an interesting history as it was started by the Quakers who left the USA to settle Monteverde years ago. Click here to learn a little more about that.
This road to a reserve is located right next to the Cheese Factory. Quetzals are often spotted in this reserve.

We were surprised to find out that they truck in most of their milk. Not as much is produced locally as in the past.

This was fun to see - big vats of milk being made into cheese.

 Lots of ice cream flavors!

Kids are lining up for ice cream.

Ran into Nancy from La Colina Lodge and her posse of dogs. La Colina is right up the hill from here. She was at the Cheese Factory to get a hot dog. Didn't even know they sold hot dogs there! She didn't have any luck and wasn't sure why. Needs to work on her Spanish a little more to be able to get all the details.
You can get whole milk if you show up between 10 and 11 on weekdays. Well maybe you can. We were told "manana" three days in a row. If our Spanish was better we'd know why. It's $1.50 if you bring your own jug. The milk we picked up yesterday was still warm. I think I saw the cow it came from grazing in the pasture up the hill.

  1. So many wonderful places there, so much to dazzle the eyes and ears, plus emerge yourself in a new culture! I don't I have told you my maternal grandparents and further back were Quakers. I truly love your blog and pictures.
