Selvatura Park

Adventure starts here! That's their motto. And it is a cool place. They have free shuttle buses to the park running throughout the day from Santa Elena which is the town nearest Monteverde. The park is only 6.3 km and a 16 minute drive out of Santa Elena.
We spent the morning in the Jardin de Colibries (Hummingbird Garden) and then took the Treetop Walkways across the suspension bridges through the cloud forest canopy. We decided to save the zip lines for next time.
We ended up with lunch at the restaurant and then a walk through the Jardin de Mariposas (Butterfly Garden).
I could have spent the whole day in the Hummingbird Garden and plan on going back soon.

The upside down cone is to keep the coatis away from the feeders. More about coatis in a later post.

Right at the start of our walk, we noticed a band of coatis on the hillside next to us. You can see the glowing eyes from the flash. They had babies with them. Really cute.

Francisco is a terrific photographer. Will let you know when he gets his website up and running so you can take a look.
This was a first for us. The berries grow ON the leaf. One berry per leaf. Never seen anything like it.

Lots of beautiful flowers in the cloud forest.

This one below is called Hot Lips or Labios Calientes in espaƱol.

 What views!

Surprised me to find this guy on the trail! He was huge!

Fallen blosomss posing as little dancers!

Our timing was good as we had sunshine all morning but rainclouds started coming in during lunch.

After lunch we took a walk through the Butterfly Gardens.

Of course with butterflies you should find some caterpillars!

Looks like the guys are tired of waiting for the girls to finish up with the butterflies!

Pinned up and waiting to come out!

 Pink bananas!

The butterfly chrysalis waiting to hatch -

You can tell the Morpho by its seven dots on the outside of its wings.

Look who found a new friend!

And it seems like every day here is ending with one of these!
